Transformation Shawl | Grief Ritual Shawl with Seven Ribbons

£82.75

Grief is not a problem to solve. But it needs something to hold you while you carry what you carry.

This is a crocheted shawl shaped like butterfly wings — seven pointed tips, chevron waves in the stitches, made to wrap around you when grief feels too heavy to hold alone.

In ancient Greek, psyche means both soul and butterfly. The creature that transforms. That carries what it carried as a caterpillar and becomes something else with wings. You didn't ask for this transformation. But you don't come out the same.

This shawl is made in seafoam green/turquoise — a color for honoring grief related to loss of health, ability, or the body you once had. If you're grieving a different kind of loss, please let me know in the order notes and I can create your shawl in a color that speaks to your specific grief.

What's Included

  • Hand-crocheted butterfly shawl (50 inches wide, turquoise lacy chevron pattern)
  • Seven cream ribbons stored in a small sewn pouch at the bottom
  • Complete ritual guide (PDF).
  • Personalized Ancient Germanic blessing for your specific grief (if you wish)

How It Works

The seven points represent seven milestones in your grief journey. The milestones are yours to define — a week, a month, a memory honored, a moment of integration, whatever marks your path.

Two ritual paths. You choose which feels true:

Releasing: Start with all seven ribbons tied to the shawl's points. With each milestone, remove one. Give it to fire, water, earth, or a meaningful place. When all seven are gone, the shawl has done its work.

Claiming: Start with ribbons in the pouch. With each milestone — a memory honored, a piece of wisdom earned, a moment of peace — tie one ribbon to a point. When all seven are tied, the grief has been woven into your life.

The number seven comes from the Old Norse sjaund — the feast held on the seventh day after a death, when the living could begin to claim what had been left behind.

Designed for Real Bodies

This shawl drapes. It doesn't require standing, precise placement, or removing layers. It works wrapped around you in bed, draped across a lap in a wheelchair, pulled over shoulders in a hospital chair, or worn while sitting at a window.

Grief magic for bodies as they actually are.

What This Is NOT

This will not make grief stop. It will not bring them back. It will not give you "closure."

What it can do: hold you while you carry what you carry. Create moments when the weight feels bearable. Give you something physical to mark the milestones only you can name.
